Summry or StudySmarter?
StudySmarter is a complete platform: flashcards, study sheets, schedule, native applications, and a library of ready-made content. In France, it publishes no price grid, and no Anki export is documented. Summry takes the problem from the other end: you upload a course and get study sheets, flashcards and quizzes in about twenty seconds, then Anki-compatible CSV if you want to study elsewhere. The choice comes down to one simple question: do you want the tool to hold your calendar, or to hand you your material?

Two tools, two approaches.
StudySmarter wants to be the single place where you organise your work. You import a course, the AI draws study sheets and cards from it, you add an exam date, then you study from a native application. The tool is not only for producing: it is for holding a schedule up to the day itself, with reminders and statistics.
Summry stops earlier, deliberately. The material goes in — PDF, photo of notes, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, audio, YouTube — and study sheets, flashcards, quizzes and mind maps come out. You fix them, export Anki-compatible CSV or print to PDF, and study wherever you want. Scheduling is not its subject; producing and exporting material is. Summry is our tool, and this comparison also says what StudySmarter does better.
Summry is our tool. We compare it with its limits, and we also say what StudySmarter does better.
What StudySmarter does well.
What really works in StudySmarter, and when it helps.
The library is already there.
Millions of community flashcards and folders by subject, including expert-written content, with dedicated pages for medicine, law and nursing.
The flashcards are mature.
Generation from a document, manual editor, spaced repetition, offline mode on mobile. It is the historical heart of the tool.
AI steps in at several levels.
Study sheets, flashcards, unlimited mock exams with feedback, an assistant over your documents, chapter-by-chapter paths, podcasts generated from your material.
The schedule is built in.
Exam date, reminders, goals, statistics, task list. The tool follows your progress, not just your card production: that is what sets it apart from a simple generator.
The native applications are solid.
iOS and Android, synchronised with the web, with an advertised offline mode. Ratings confirm it: 4.6/5 on the French App Store (2,114 ratings), 4.3/5 on Google Play (29.5k reviews).
Entry is free.
You can study without paying, the terms and conditions confirm it. Advanced features require a subscription, but the floor exists.
What Summry adds.
The differences that matter when the study load grows.
Speed, on the course that just landed.
Study sheets, flashcards and quizzes come out in about twenty seconds, sometimes less. It is not comfort: it is what lets you process today’s course before it piles up.
The formats StudySmarter does not detail.
PDF, slides, photos of notes: both take them. For lecture audio, Excel or a YouTube video, StudySmarter documents nothing publicly; Summry accepts them.
An export, not a dead end.
Anki-compatible CSV and PDF printing. At StudySmarter, no official page documents either: a 2024 review regrets it, which is not proof for 2026, but nothing contradicts it.
Readable pricing.
Summry displays €7/month, or €5.83/month billed yearly, and 50 free credits a month. StudySmarter has no public grid in France: its prices only appear in App Store in-app purchases.
A PWA, not an installation.
Summry is added to your home screen, without a store. In exchange, StudySmarter has real native applications, with an advertised offline mode: on that point, it does better.
Mind maps, without caveat.
Summry generates one from a course. At StudySmarter, the feature is mentioned in the terms and conditions and in a 2023 article, but missing from the 2026 feature list: it cannot be counted as given.
The study load, in medicine and beyond
In the PASS, the problem is not finding study sheets: it is the volume. A condensed semester, courses landing every week, recorded lectures, handouts nobody has time to get into clean shape. What costs is the formatting — copying, summarising, splitting — before even revising.
In law or preparatory classes, the subject changes, not the mechanism. A judgment, a chapter of a code, an eight-page course: you have to produce a short study sheet and questions, then go through them. StudySmarter covers medicine, law, nursing, the bac and the brevet, but no explicit path is dedicated to the PASS, the LAS or the EDN.
Hence the order that works in high-load programmes: produce the material fast, fix it, then revise in the tool that handles repetition — Anki, or StudySmarter if you want its schedule. Summry puts its effort into the first step, with [the PASS method](/pour/pass-medecine).

When to choose which?
Two different uses. See which one looks like yours.
Choose StudySmarter
Choose StudySmarter if you want the tool to hold the calendar: exam date, reminders, statistics, ready-made cards, native application. It is the right choice if you start a semester without a method and would rather be guided.
Choose Summry
Choose Summry if you already have your method and a lot of material to convert: producing study sheets and quizzes fast, fixing them, exporting to Anki, printing, and knowing what you pay before you pay. You already hold the schedule.
Pricing.
Prices listed on the official sites, with no sponsored offer.
Summry

- Essentiel €7/month or €5.83/month billed yearly (€70/year)
- Major €15/month or €10/month billed yearly (€120/year)
StudySmarter

- yearly from €34.99 to €89.99/year (App Store in-app purchases, 10/27/2026)
StudySmarter has no public grid in France: the pricing pages return an error and the app redirects to a sign-up. The only visible amounts are the in-app purchases on the App Store listing of October 27, 2026: €9.99/month, a second monthly tier at €19.99, and yearly plans from €34.99 to €89.99. What each tier covers is not detailed.
The honest comparison: per month, StudySmarter’s first tier is more expensive than Summry’s Essentiel (€9.99 against €7). Per year, one of its displayed plans drops to €34.99, against €70 for Essentiel, but without knowing what the tier includes. And its FAQ claims the app is “entirely free and always will be”, while a Premium subscription exists.

Frequently asked questions.
Answers to the most common questions about StudySmarter and Summry.
Is StudySmarter really free?
Partly. The terms and conditions are clear: “Using the platform is free as long as you do not use other features marked as paid.” The marketing is less so: a site FAQ claims the app is free forever, while a Premium subscription exists.
How much does StudySmarter cost?
No public pricing in France: the price pages return an error and the app redirects to sign-up. The only visible amounts are the in-app purchases on the French App Store, checked on October 27, 2026: €9.99/month, a second tier at €19.99, and yearly plans from €34.99 to €89.99/year. The content of each tier is not detailed.
Can you export StudySmarter flashcards to Anki?
No official page documents an Anki or CSV export, nor PDF printing. A June 2024 review regrets it: a clue, not proof for 2026. At Summry, Anki-compatible CSV export and PDF printing are documented.
Is Summry suitable for the PASS and the LAS?
Yes, it is one of its main use cases: photos of notes, lecture audio, handout PDFs, then study sheets, flashcards and quizzes in about twenty seconds. Anki export lets you continue on your own tool.
Do you have to install an application?
Not with Summry: it is a PWA, you add it to your home screen without going through a store. StudySmarter offers a web version and iOS and Android applications, with an advertised offline mode on mobile — more comfortable if you often study without a network.
