Public sector exams · competitive exam
A single phase since 2024 and three eliminatory marks. 2027 registrations close on 18 January; the written papers are fixed, the sport and oral remain provisional.
The real format of the exam, and what actually decides it.
Since the decree of 18 March 2024, the external competition consists of a single admission phase. Four written papers: a 2-hour case study based on a file of at most 15 pages, two multiple-choice questionnaires in 1 hour and unmarked psychotechnical tests. Then two physical tests and a 25-minute interview, including 5 minutes of presentation.
The ranking is decided on fine margins. Sport and the case study carry the same coefficient 4, the interview rises to 5, and three floor marks eliminate: under 5/20 in the case study, under 7/20 in sport, under 5/20 in the oral. The 2027 number of places is not set and no pass rate is published.

Current affairs, French and European institutions, republican values, French history.
Everyday reading comprehension, with no translation either way.
Intellectual aptitudes and psychological profile, passed to the interview jury.
Medical certificate less than 3 months old; eliminated in sport, no oral.
Motivation, personality, knowledge of the job, coherence of the background.
The dates that matter, with their status.
Official date (decree of 30 September 2026). Registration has been open since 19 October 2026; after this limit, no more submissions. Language and centre are then fixed.
Official date. 10 March in New Caledonia and Wallis and Futuna.
Provisional: the national police present these dates as indicative and subject to change.
Provisional. The lists stay online for three months.
Only the first session is open to date. Two sessions are organised per year, but no date is announced for the second of 2027.
Dates checked on October 28, 2026. Any date that hasn’t been published is flagged as such.
The obstacles that cost you points, not the clichés.
Two hours, 15 pages maximum: every answer must come from the documents. A copy that recites the code without using the file loses the method marks, and the case study is eliminatory under 5/20.
Under 7/20 in either physical test and the interview does not take place. The medical certificate less than 3 months old is prepared alongside training.
Coefficient 5, 25 minutes, a CV handed over on the day and psychotechnical tests already read by the jury.
Five years of commitment after appointment outside the Paris region, eight years in Île-de-France (external competition page). Language and centre are fixed at the close, on 18 January 2027.
A course goes in. Ready-made materials come out. You study.
Sort the documents before writing: locate them, note their page, build a plan. Every statement in the case study must refer to a document.
The mark follows a scale and 7/20 eliminates. Redo the test, note your performance and keep a margin above the threshold.
Background, motivation, view of the job: three axes, a stopwatch, and a rehearsal without notes until you hold the time.
Study materials, not a promise you’ll pass.
Import a practice file as PDF or photos: Summry produces a sheet and a mind map of the documents. Sorting, the decision and the order of actions still have to be written by hand.
Generate quizzes from your institution and current-affairs sheets, then run them at the pace of the paper, which allows 1 hour for both questionnaires.
Import articles in English, Spanish or German and have yourself quizzed on reading comprehension: the paper asks for neither translation into nor out of French.
Import the official competition page and texts about the job: the chat answers only from these documents, to handle the jury's questions.
Summry does not mark your case study and does not replace timed physical training or a mock oral in front of someone: these three papers are worked on in real conditions.
The questions we get asked most often about Gardien de la paix competition.
Since the decree of 18 March 2024, the competition has only one admission phase. You sit four written papers (2-hour case study, two quizzes in 1 hour, unmarked psychotechnical tests), two physical tests and a 25-minute interview including 5 minutes of presentation.
You need the baccalauréat or a level 4 diploma, be between 17 and under 45 years old on 1 January of the competition year, be a French national, have a criminal record extract (bulletin no. 2) without any mention incompatible with the duties and be physically fit (threshold medical profile II).
Registrations close on 18 January 2027 at 18:00, Paris time; they have been open since 19 October 2026. The written papers are set for 9 March 2027. Sport and interview are announced from 29 March to 28 May 2027, for results on 2 July: the national police present these last two dates as provisional.
The number is not published: the decree of 30 September 2026 refers to a later ministerial decree. No pass rate is available for 2027. Two sessions are organised per year, but only the first 2027 session is open to date, and the calendar of the second is not announced.
You need final approval and the medical fitness certificate, then 12 months at a police school and 12 months of practical placement, both paid. A category B driving licence is compulsory to be confirmed in post, and the final ranking determines the posting.
