Summry or Knowt?
Knowt has carved out a place as the free alternative to Quizlet: unlimited flashcards, two-click import, AP, SAT and ACT mock exams. Its free plan is generous. On the other hand, its free AI is limited to one summary a month, its site exists only in English and no Anki export is documented. Summry takes the problem from the other end: turning a French course — PDF, photo, audio — into study sheets, quizzes and mind maps in about twenty seconds.

Two tools, two approaches.
Knowt presents itself as the free alternative to Quizlet. Its core is the flashcard: an unlimited set, study modes included, migration in two clicks. AI comes on top, as a layer added to that base — and that is where free stops.
Summry starts from the opposite direction. The course is the starting point, and the AI has to produce material from it. PDF, photos of notes, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, audio, YouTube: everything goes in. Study sheets, flashcards, quizzes and mind maps come out. The chat, Anki export and the PWA then serve to review. The study load, in medicine and beyond
In the PASS, the LAS or medicine, a semester means handwritten courses, university PDFs and recorded lectures. In law, the load is different: codes, case law, essays, and handouts to digest before every tutorial. In both cases, copying neatly is not studying: it is time taken from active recall.
Summry is built for that volume. A photo of your notes, a university PDF, the audio of a course: everything goes in, and the material comes out in about twenty seconds. The chat then answers about your documents. The PWA follows you on the metro.
Knowt keeps that pace too, with spaced repetition and generated tests. Three limits weigh on French degree programmes: a single AI summary a month on the free plan, no Anki export, a site in English. Choose Knowt
Choose Knowt if you are preparing an American exam — AP, SAT, ACT, IB — or if you want to study with flashcards without paying. You have Quizlet sets to recover, or you are looking for a podcast and a voice tutor: Knowt does that better than we do.
Choose Summry
Choose Summry if you have French courses to absorb — medicine, PASS, LAS, law, preparatory classes — and you do not want to retype them. A PDF, a photo or an audio file is enough to get study sheets, quizzes and mind maps in about twenty seconds. And if you live in Anki, the CSV export takes you back there.

- Basic, free: unlimited flashcards and notes, 1 AI summary a month. Ultra $24.99/month, or $12.99/month billed yearly ($149.99/year, 3-day trial on the yearly plan).
Knowt bills in dollars, with no euro grid. Its pricing page advertises $12.99/month for the yearly plan, but $149.99 divided by twelve gives $12.50; the help says “about $12.50 per month”.
Knowt sells AI separately: the free plan covers cards, the Kai chat stays in Ultra. Summry bills in euros, with two plans: €70/year on Essentiel, €120/year on Major, and 50 credits a month on the free plan.
