Summry or Quizlet?
Quizlet is a library of ready-made cards: the platform advertises more than 500 million cards created, and millions of public sets. Summry is our tool: it turns a PDF, a photo of notes or lecture audio into study sheets, flashcards and quizzes, in about twenty seconds. Both make you study, but not at the same moment. Quizlet excels at repeating. Summry steps in when you first have to produce the material.
4.3/5 on Trustpilot2,000+ students
Two tools, two approaches.
Quizlet starts from the card. You create a term/definition set, you repeat it with four modes, and you can draw on your class’s public sets. It is a memorisation tool, with a real mobile app and an offline mode.
Summry starts from the course. You upload what you have — PDF, photo, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, audio, YouTube — and you get study sheets, flashcards, quizzes and mind maps. We develop Summry, so we know its limits. The logic is different: Quizlet helps you remember what you have already put into cards, Summry helps you build the cards.
Summry is our tool. We compare it with its limits, and we also say what Quizlet does better.
What Quizlet does well.
What really works in Quizlet, and when it helps.
A library of ready-made sets.
Millions of public sets, shared by students. If your class already has its anatomy cards, you save an evening.
Four study modes, and games.
Cards, Learn, Test, Match. Plus games and Quizlet Live in class. Studying is not just one more quiz.
A native mobile app, with offline mode.
iOS and Android, saved sets, reviewing on the metro without a network. Summry goes through a PWA: it installs, but the integration is not the same.
Audio, including recorded lectures.
An audio file of up to 5 hours, or the recording of a lecture, is enough to produce a study plan.
High ratings, on a large volume.
4.72/5 on the French App Store, over 66,937 ratings. 4.5/5 on Google Play, over 923,000 reviews.
Study plans in French.
The summary and the cards generated from an uploaded course exist in French. The limit is elsewhere: AI practice tests are only available in English.
What Summry adds.
The differences that matter when the study load grows.
Generation in about twenty seconds.
Study sheets, flashcards and quizzes, often faster. Splitting a dense course into term/definition pairs by hand is time taken from revision.
Photos of handwritten notes.
You photograph a page of your course, you get a study sheet. At Quizlet, photos go through the mobile app and stay reserved for the Plus subscription.
A chat that only answers from your documents.
“Ask Quizlet” accepts a file or an image, but the assistant also answers on general topics. With us, the answer stays backed by your courses.
An export that really goes out.
Anki-compatible CSV and PDF printing. According to its help, Quizlet limits itself to copying the text of a set, on the web, and printing from a computer.
Mind maps.
To see the plan of a chapter at a glance. No mind map in Quizlet’s French help centre: its interactive diagrams start from an image, and do not replace a map.
A PWA, not a store.
You add it to your home screen from the browser. No download, no update to run.
The study load, in medicine and beyond.
A semester of medicine, PASS or LAS means several hundred pages, handwritten courses, sometimes recorded lectures. In law, it is codes, case law and essays to turn into plans. The load is not only remembering: you first have to produce readable material.
That is where Summry was born. PDF, photo of your notes, audio, Word, Excel, YouTube: you upload, you get study sheets, flashcards and quizzes in about twenty seconds, then you revise. The chat answers about your documents. [Our method for the PASS and medicine](/pour/pass-medecine) details that flow.
Quizlet holds the other half of the work. Once the cards are ready, its four modes and spaced repetition do the job, and offline mode helps. But its native format remains the term/definition pair, and its AI practice tests do not work in French. On an eight-page judgment, you get a summary and cards, not a written study sheet.
The head-to-head.
Nine criteria, the same for every tool. A “—” means “not verified”, not “no”.
| Criterion | Summry | Quizlet |
|---|---|---|
| AI study sheets | Yes | YesQuizlet generates a study plan with a summary from an uploaded course, in French. Those are cards and a summary, not a written study sheet. |
| AI quizzes | Yes | YesQuizlet’s AI practice tests are reserved for English-language accounts, and for certain subjects. Classic Test mode works with your cards. |
| Mind maps | Yes | No |
| Multi-format import | Yes | YesQuizlet: text, Word and spreadsheet, PDF, slides, photos (mobile, Plus), audio, Google Drive. YouTube import is documented nowhere: not verified. |
| AI chat on your course | Yes | Yes“Ask Quizlet” accepts a file or an image, but also answers on general topics. Summry relies only on your documents. |
| Anki export | Yes | — |
| PDF export / printing | Yes | YesQuizlet prints sets and tests from a desktop browser, not from the mobile app. |
| 100% in French | Yes | YesInterface, help centre and study plans in French at Quizlet. Two features remain in English: AI practice tests and textbook solutions. |
| Based on neuroscience | Yes | — |
When to choose which?
Two different uses. See which one looks like yours.
Choose Quizlet
You already have ready-made sets — yours or your class’s — and you want to repeat them with four modes, games and a mobile app that works offline. Quizlet is made for that, and its yearly plan starts lower than ours.
Choose Summry
You have dense courses, often handwritten, sometimes recorded, and you first have to turn them into material. Summry takes photos and audio, generates in about twenty seconds, answers about your documents and outputs Anki-compatible CSV.

Frequently asked questions.
Answers to the most common questions about Quizlet and Summry.
Summry or Quizlet: which one should you choose to study?
Both, often. Quizlet to repeat ready-made pairs, with four modes and offline mode. Summry when you first have to produce the material from a dense course: PDF, photo of notes, audio.
Can you import a PDF or a photo into Quizlet?
Yes. Quizlet accepts pasted text, a Word document or a spreadsheet, a PDF or slides to generate a study plan. Photos and scans go through the mobile app, and stay reserved for the Plus subscription.
Do the quizzes generated by Quizlet work in French?
The classic Test mode, yes: it relies on the cards in your set. The AI practice tests, no: they require an English account, and only cover science and arts and humanities.
Can you export a Quizlet set to Anki?
No file export is documented. The official help only describes “Copy text”, from the web, and printing from a computer. So the path to Anki remains unverified. Summry offers Anki-compatible CSV.
Does Summry work on a phone?
Yes, as a PWA: you add it to your home screen from the browser, without going through a store. Quizlet offers a native iOS and Android app, with an offline mode.
